Trunk is creating an operating system that runs in your closet and keeps your data there, and only there. We're starting by providing Cloud Storage and Compute, making it easy enough for anyone to run. Follow us for updates.

Hi folks! We now have a fully digestible (but pretty hard to use) trunk demo that runs in virtualbox.

This is nowhere near the final product, but some feedback on the functionality is worth demonstrating right now. There's a lot of cool stuff already.

Also, object storage is very close to done; I have demo-able code at gitea.com/trunk/chest (the repositories have moved to gitea); the CLI functions with the service.

To try it, run the daemon which will create a dir to stuff all of it in; the other tool is the cli; it will let you create an acct.

Financing Update: It's not entirely finalized yet, but we seem to have made our needs for the month. Working on the future: more on that soon.

Big milestone achieved yesterday: the object store started sustaining writes; I managed to upload a whole git repository to it.

Performance is still an issue, but not super terrible. The whole service runs in under 100MB of ram idle, and uses 20% of a core and another 100MB uploading a large file.

Hey folks; the person building Trunk is really having trouble pulling it together financially this month, in a time of the year where it's hard to find work and a job market that is generally hostile.

Your money literally translates to the ability to keep me housed.

Thread has more.

I've recently built a queue management library that is intended to be used in our new object storage system, which is coming together really beautifully. This product is already built, however, and maybe you can use it.

Object Storage and docs have been the focus the last few weeks; now that the panel is in a stable spot, it's time to codify some of the decisions already made, and build atop what's there.

chest, the object service, already has accounts, ACLs, and virtual path mapping between accounts (sharing).

The problem with paid VPN services is there's no guarantee in a year they won't be logging your shit and quietly told you in an email at some point.

Mixing a home-based VPN with a cloud bastion host (something in-between) is a reliable bet. Trunk is very close to helping you get very far there.

Latest screenshot: I spent the last two weeks putting together a mini-configuration management system that works a lot more like SQL migrations; either way, now this comes up as soon as your machine boots... It starts recording metrics immediately and the dashboard is literally what you will see.

One thing about charon (the packaging system) that I really really hope catches on is that it's basically a cross between debconf and a kubernetes manifest; you can pepper the manifest with templated variables and ask questions. The questions are typed; numbers/strings/etc now, hosts and paths otw

Nobody is on airs about the polish in the UI; we're mostly focused on functionality, ease of use, and sober/performant API endpoints to provide that stuff. Prettifying it will come later.

We've rebuilt the UI to be more performant, and we also have the packaging system wired together. Also, uPnP is now available for services you want to expose to your router -- completely transparent. The UI's not pretty yet, but here are some shots of all of it working together.

Please pay attention to what we're doing for an alternative option for those computers -- turn them into completely private cloud storage and compute options for your home.

We've got a few updates right around the corner as far as progress goes. It's happening!

Update: the packaging system is mostly working along with the UI. Both cmaujean and I have been sidelined working on a paid project which we both need to complete; some time will pass before we can return to building this out, probably another month.

This is why we need easy to use, personal cloud solutions like Trunk. It's not about your dick pics.

Some new shots of the last 1.5 months of hard work, the packaging system for launching apps. Here, we install and check the systemd status for coturn.

Update: still working on packaging services and the integration around it. Soon, you will be able to one click your way into answering a few questions about your setup (like an install wizard) and have everything provisioned for you, from uPnP rules to volume configuration and bootstrap.

We're sorry for the lack of documentation at this phase. We're spiking for a couple of in-person demos soon; after that this situation will get resolved.

Patreon donation is available on the website: trunk-os.github.io. If you're looking to donate seriously, time is best, but money helps a lot.

We're looking at ways to authentically provide value for different tiers, feedback is welcome.

disk management and dashboard. some of this is out of date; the lorem ipsum is replaced with an audit log and the stats are tweaked a bit.
