I don't think it was to drum up publicity (see blow), but the new logo was bad. Wouldn't have been hard to improve on the not-great existing logo but this wasn't it.
I do believe the broader revamp was a terrible idea. I don't know if it can succeed, but I don't think it can without rusticism.
