TrPR recently came together for a half-day retreat. We began with a living timeline: everyone arranged themselves by order of joining, from newest to oldest. I jogged along the line, camera in hand, past the smiling faces on the sunlit terrace of the Pritzker Building—and ended where it all began

Due to the whites of the eye, humans have a uniquely communicative gaze. Other primates have dark eyes, hiding their gaze from conspecifics. We cooperate, they compete. Common knowledge – right? Yes, but it’s incorrect, as we argue in our new paper 🧵🧪1/11

I am a professor at Columbia University. All of the student NIH training grants have been canceled and now there are reports that ALL funding will be frozen. Why are Universities not banding together and speaking out publicly and forcibly about governmental attacks on biomedical research?

Noticeably silent amid the upheaval at HHS? Big pharma. Every new drug has NIH somewhere in its DNA--and NIH funding supports the training of their workforce. Now they're finding out FDA isn't safe, either. Wrote about how keeping quiet isn't working My latest @opinion.bloomberg.com (gift link):

HEY DORKS IN AMERICA!!

If we don’t get into the streets and fight this, there will be no science left here. We don’t have time for luke warm, diplomatic takes and accusations of “taking this clown too seriously.”

Put your big girl pants on and LFG.
With a heavy heart, I've decided to suspend all academic travel to the USA for me and my lab. Given the escalation of tensions and uncertainties, it seems to be the wisest move. To our US colleagues, please be certain that we will continue to do what we can to support you. Science is global.
