In any other country, if federal agents fired upon journalists when unprovoked — what would we call it?

If federal agents marched down streets demanding papers — what would we say?

Authoritarianism — let’s not pretend it’s something else when it happens in our American cities.

New interview! On saving the national parks, standing up against “national divorce” propaganda, and road-tripping through an America in turmoil. I enjoyed this conversation and hope you do too! whatamimaking.substack.com/p/waim-podca...

Previous generations fought fascism in nearly every corner of the earth. Today it’s on our streets, silencing opposition and attempting to control the airwaves.

The GOP has declared all out war on free speech. It’s up to us to fight for it.

My first academic article was on the dictatorship of Uzbekistan inventing a group called "Akromiya" that did not really exist but which they used to arrest anyone with whom they disagreed under the pretext of "terrorism". Just bringing this up for no reason whatsoever!

Under Reagan's tax cuts, the average tax cut for the top 1% was 68x larger than the average cut for middle-class households.

Under Bush's tax cuts, it was 16x larger.

And under Trump, 36x larger.

The GOP has always governed for the privileged few.

Guys, it's the oligarchs. If you want to blame someone for 2024, blame the oligarchs. Anyone telling you to blame someone else is part of the oligarchy. Dark money has been to blame since citizens united.

If a foreign adversary snuck into our Federal budget and cut science research and education the way we’re cutting it ourselves — strategically undermining America’s long-term health, wealth, and security — we would likely consider it an act of war.

Linda McMahon, Secretary of Education, sent Harvard a letter.

They graded it.

I don’t think I would want to live in an America without a PBS & NPR. Trump and the GOP fear accountability, they fear ‘Frontline’ doing deep dives on their mounting abuse of civil liberties & corruption and most importantly they fear culture & inclusivity and education itself.
