I think I'm going to meet my 2023 reading goal.

Which I guess means this year wasn't a total bust.

If you're like me, and ISLAND OF THE BLUE DOLPHINS was one of your gateway drugs into reading, pick up I AM STILL ALIVE by Kate Alice Marshall.

Very much in the same vein and I just tore through it. *happy sigh*

I think I'm doing NaNo. I miss writing so much but need something to force me to make the time. Eep!

"I'm very sorry if anything I did when we were younger hurt Britney or contributed in any way to her mental health struggles afterward. If I could go back and do things differently with the benefit of added maturity, I certainly would."

There, JT. I rewrote your response to Britney's memoir.

Anyone want to hit me with recs for a) great true crime books or b) horror/true crime/mystery novels?

My older kids went ice skating for the first time tonight and my 4yo (almost 5yo) was just SPECTACULARLY bad at it.

Like. He looked like someone put ice skates on a Looney Tune.

One of those parenting moments that almost kills you from suppressed laughter.

The no one ever asked me on a single date ever kind.
I can’t imagine any Bsky early adopter was cool in high school, so what kind of loser were you?

Why yes, I did "make cookies" just so I could eat the dough that's still in the fridge 24 hours later.

Judge me.

When I was about 14 I read a Dean Koontz book late into the night (Servants of Twilight, I think) and ended up having to sleep with a light on for months.

I have learned nothing in the intervening 30 years, because the book I am reading right now has me absolutely jumping at shadows. 😅💀

iStock's response to my query for an image of a 'male clean freak.'

I don't....know.

Reading "Why Does He Do That" and realizing I've maybe been in one non-abusive relationship in my entire life?

Woof.

This lost item finder is great for people who lose their keys or the remote...

Or their aging parents or their baby! #dead 😂😂😂

1. Cicadas.
2. Orb weavers spinning webs in my windows.
3. Big, old trees.
4. How monkeys gave humans AIDS and probably Ebola but we still think they're cute.
5. The stunning depravity of dolphins (but we still think they're cute).
What 5 nature things make you lose your cool?
1. Ravens making friends with humans and giving them shiny things they've found.
2. How trees communicate with each other through fungal networks
3. Sloths. That's it. Just...sloths.
4. Octopus intelligence
5. Derpy cats doing derpy things
What 5 nature things make you lose your cool?
1. A bird I've never seen before. Or any bird.
2. A really nice toad.
3. Baby wombat carer feeds on Instagram, especially in the stage where the babies look kinda like gummi bears.
4. Saving turtles as they cross the road.
5. Interacting with sharks.

Who approved the thriller/mystery novel trend in which the narrator is attacked after revealing one final twist and then we are left to wonder whether they live or die?

I'm...not a huge fan.

I have lived in the Midwest my entire life (if you count North Texas, which I do). I also love cicadas.

Why, then, do I get freaked out EVERY SUMMER and think someone is trying to break into my house when it's just cicadas head-banging the porchlight?

Writers, what's the ONE book of yours that you wish had gotten more traction/found more readers? Pop a link in the replies and maybe we can get some readers browsing. Everybody has that one book they especially love, the runt that doesn't always find its feet.
