Sorry being so graphic at this time of the morning… but here is an example of the Pine Marten scat. Must have been eating yew berries.

Sorry.

Great Tits for #FirstBirdOfMyDay Hannah… a Jay has opened a hole in the Peanut feeder so “The Trade Union” are increasingly vocal as I approach the bird table in the morning.
I think a Pine Martin has started turning up because of the fallen peanuts… which won’t help the Trade Union’s mood.

A Robin barking at me like a Regimental Sergeant Major to get on with filling the Bird Feeders was the #FirstBirdOfMyDay .

Sky! (Yes, with some cloud and retreating mist)
November 7, 2025 at 7:54 AM
I can see sky, rather than cloud & mizzle or rain, for the first time in quite a while. Bird table, hedge line and yew trees covered with #birds.

Lovely to see Bramblings, Linnets, Siskins, Fieldfares and #FirstBirdOfMyDay Redwings joining the resident crews, as skeins of Greylag passed over.

#ThickTrunkThursday - she’s holding onto her leaves pretty well given the run of storms we have had recently (we lost #trees in #StormAmy & #StormFloris).
A remarkable #Oak, 💚 her.

Col. George Connal Rowan - grave in the #Meiklewood plot (remembered with his wife, “Great Aunt” Helena) at Gargunnock Church.

How many foods are this delicious (best meat?) and also so good for you? (high protein, minerals etc).

Easy to cook:
high temp & rest, or,
low & slow, or
add to Beef Mince -> eg “Beefison Burgers”.

Just don’t understand why it is not more popular - but perhaps “Bambi” doesn’t help.

Had a proper “Little & Large” moment for #FirstBirdOfMyDay and we all know that the mighty wren is loud🤣
November 6, 2025 at 12:34 PM
Bit of #HedgePorn ; our “Mullet”* #hedges on the drive. Cut each year on the drive, so “neat” (don’t look too hard) and really thick & dense (warm) but the back is only lightly cut every 3-5 years or so. Very old #Oaks line the drive and we have #trees , shrubs, dog roses growing.

I think a #PeregrineFalcon - but I admit I was childishly excited about seeing it at home again, so please do correct me if I am wrong - … certainly the other #birds either kept tight to/in the trees or flew off quickly at speed and low.
Such beautiful #BirdsOfPrey. 💚

The sheets were tugging so I was a tad later than usual for the “Green before Screen” walk with the Pup hence the large number of Rooks, Jackdaws, Crows, Hoodies & Ravens were already up & about, but Great Tits are always a good way to start #FirstBirdOfMyDay, annoyed that I was late for bird table
November 2, 2025 at 8:39 AM
Snap with the Jackdaws for #FirstBirdOfMyDay … frost on the ground after a clear night followed by morning fog. Bird feeding table busy.
Skeins of Pinkfoot & Greylag #Geese passing over; I think (& hope) with the cold they will keep to the stubbles here rather than inhaling our Winter Wheat. #Birds

Love the rings from past shrubs.

#FungiFriday - from the very old, very mossy, very damp and protected from strong winds East Lawn.

(See earlier pics of the cut Wood piles - we leave a lot to rot on purpose - been the perfect conditions for #Fungi)

#FungiFriday - been perfect conditions for them on these old blocks of cut wood.
(Pics of lawn #Fungi to follow)

A chilly #FirstBirdOfMyDay walk to the river (note to self: time to start filling the bird feeders) with a bit of Little (Goldcrest) and Large (so many Pinkfoot Geese).
As always it is a treat to hear & see a Curlew 💚.
Off to get seeds, fat-balls and peanuts.

#ThickTrunkThursday : The #Puppy (who has trebled her weight in 3 months), the #Beech, the upstanding #Wellingtonia / #Sequoia all enjoying the #Autumn light after a few dreich days.
The number of Fieldfares & Redwings tells me that we have some cold weather coming.
#Trees 💚
October 23, 2025 at 4:02 PM
Up & at it before the Jackdaws & Rooks (& Geese) woke up. Fieldfares & Redwings were my #FirstBirdOfMyDay already arguing over Yew berries…
…before they will move on to the #Hedges to continue their debate over the Haws & Sloes.
Robins & Blackbirds trying to hold their territory but just too many.
October 22, 2025 at 8:49 AM
Snap with you on Robins for #FirstBirdOfMyDay on a very dreich day.

Wrens, Blackbirds and Goldcrests are also awake but the Robins most vocal.
October 21, 2025 at 6:50 AM
Costa del Carse of #Stirling giving a “Red Sky at Night”? False signal as rain is forecast?

Lots of #Geese on the move after flocks of Fieldfares & Redwings earlier.
Then, Hitchcock-esque numbers of crows before this picture (from their post-ploughing worm hunting?).

💚 nearly “snap”; a #BarnOwl for #FirstBirdOfMyDay flitting between the Oaks in the Inner Park and hovering above patches of rushes. Perhaps from one of our 🦉boxes? 🤞🙏

Pretty quiet as Jackdaws & Rooks are still dozing, so only alarm calls were from Robins, The Tits, Blackbirds and Goldcrests.
October 18, 2025 at 7:42 AM
#Geese lifting off from one of their favourite spots here, the sheep- & cattle-grazing pasture on either side of the #RiverForth, though about a 1/3 were on the Barley stubble.
Mostly Pinkfoot, but there were Greylag, Canada and some Barnacle earlier. #LastBirdOfMyDay.

#FungiFriday : burst of activity in the lawns; probably the positions of long gone shrubs or small trees…
… slightly nervous about the #Fungi at the base of the ornamental Cherry tree.
