#ThickTrunkThursday - she’s holding onto her leaves pretty well given the run of storms we have had recently (we lost #trees in #StormAmy & #StormFloris).
A remarkable #Oak, 💚 her.

Bit of #HedgePorn ; our “Mullet”* #hedges on the drive. Cut each year on the drive, so “neat” (don’t look too hard) and really thick & dense (warm) but the back is only lightly cut every 3-5 years or so. Very old #Oaks line the drive and we have #trees , shrubs, dog roses growing.

I think a #PeregrineFalcon - but I admit I was childishly excited about seeing it at home again, so please do correct me if I am wrong - … certainly the other #birds either kept tight to/in the trees or flew off quickly at speed and low.
Such beautiful #BirdsOfPrey. 💚

#FungiFriday - from the very old, very mossy, very damp and protected from strong winds East Lawn.

(See earlier pics of the cut Wood piles - we leave a lot to rot on purpose - been the perfect conditions for #Fungi)

#FungiFriday - been perfect conditions for them on these old blocks of cut wood.

#ThickTrunkThursday : The #Puppy (who has trebled her weight in 3 months), the #Beech, the upstanding #Wellingtonia / #Sequoia all enjoying the #Autumn light after a few dreich days.
The number of Fieldfares & Redwings tells me that we have some cold weather coming.
#Trees 💚

Costa del Carse of #Stirling giving a “Red Sky at Night”? False signal as rain is forecast?

Lots of #Geese on the move after flocks of Fieldfares & Redwings earlier.
Then, Hitchcock-esque numbers of crows before this picture (from their post-ploughing worm hunting?).

#Geese lifting off from one of their favourite spots here, the sheep- & cattle-grazing pasture on either side of the #RiverForth, though about a 1/3 were on the Barley stubble.
Mostly Pinkfoot, but there were Greylag, Canada and some Barnacle earlier. #LastBirdOfMyDay.

#FungiFriday : burst of activity in the lawns; probably the positions of long gone shrubs or small trees…
… slightly nervous about the #Fungi at the base of the ornamental Cherry tree.

Extraordinary numbers of #Geese here now, more Pinkfoot than Greylag, and some Canada Geese.

Skein after skein flew in; this was 2hrs after they had started to arrive into this cut hay field and the grazing pasture on the other bank beside the #RiverForth.

This Beech #Tree has a #DeadHedge “Crown”, using the side branches, twigs and of course the rotten bits of the fallen Lime that has many insect burrows in it.

Should act as a good mulch, further guard from deer but most importantly a very substantial #Insect habitat and nesting site for #birds.

That #HarvestMoon is indeed a very bright #FullMoon.

#StormAmy was hard on #Trees still in leaf given the major gusts.

Had a nervous peak of Inner Park this morning to see damage; 1 Lime tree snapped at base (note the #Oak beside it was unharmed).
Oak trees seem to have lost branches, rather than “limbs” if you see what I mean.

#FridayFungi - quite a selection after the recent frost and then warm rain.

#Flowers for Harvest Festival service and Mum’s Birthday this weekend.

Getting them in before #StormAmy hits tonight ( only just finished clearing up after #StormFloris ).

#FirstFrost has dusted the #dahlias (🤞) and trees are spinning the Colour Wheel.
I’ve always thought that #Autumn must be such a frustrating time of year for people who are Green-Red Colour Blind (my Old Man is).
Lots of #Hares - did the Pup & I disturb their breakfast meeting over a morning brew?
September 22, 2025 at 7:14 AM
#RedSquirrels : surely they get dizzy going round and round the Monkey Puzzle Tree like that ?!?
(no sound - recorded from kitchen and the Pup was after her tea)

#FridayFungi - almost perfect circle of field #mushrooms. I’d moved the sheep away quietly as it is a favourite productive spot for mushrooms after perfect growing conditions.

Picked a handful of the very freshest; cooked in some butter with salt & pepper and a little garlic.
Delicious 💚
