Got my October turns on Throop with the inimitable Andy Lewicky and got my November turns solo on BP today. The good news is the snow won’t be going anywhere. The bad news is the lower sun angle is letting these north faces approach the point where the snow is almost unedgable.

Monster October storm for the San Gabriel Mountains - winds were aligned perfectly for orographic rainfall on the transverse ranges. 4”-5” across the west fork of the San Gabriel River drainage. Fire season is over up there.

It’s that special time of year where Table Mtn has perfect weather and late sunsets. Makes me want to bike trip to Alaska, chasing the snow the whole way.

Mammoth does reliably get a lot of snow but more than anything I feel like their long seasons are a testament to incredible snowpack management. They always seem to know how much snow they have, and how to move exactly the right amount to exactly the right place, to deliver great conditions.

How long do we ski? As long as there’s snow!

DID YOU KNOW that there was a huge rock avalanche in the San Gabriel Mountains above #Azusa 9,000 years ago? Cal Poly Pomona #Geology professor Nick Van Buer shows us exactly where in his trek to the Mojave Desert:

Is it snowing at the top of Mt High West or is that just a camera artifact? It’s cold enough and it’s the perfect spot for this alignment of wind and topography.

A two for one today, with first stop at Snow Summit. Haven’t been over there in quite some time!

Thanks for a great season Mountain High. We had a lot of fun, got better at skiing, and even learned a thing or two about being a dad. See everyone out there for camping soon!

Everyone had so much fun at Mountain High yesterday we decided to do it again today. My guy got his first solo run from the top, and they are making snow tonight April 2, now that’s my energy!!

Came back out to Mt High again today and rounded up some people to tag along… and as a bonus it’s snowing tonight in Wrightwood!

SoCal skiers got cheated this year… we finally had a good couple storms in early March and it looked like this even at Mtn High East two weeks ago. Then we got a 10-day heat wave with temps in the 70s 🙄 and we’re limping into April.
Looks beautiful. Heath Canyon a great option too.

Well it’s the end of March in a low snow year for Wrightwood. We were kind of spoiled the last two. Everyone had fun though!!
