Planning is critical to a safe exit strategy. But there are ways to plan safely that mitigate the risk to you as well as to friends and comrades should the state weaponize it’s power against you.

Based on a variety of factors over the last weeks, not the least of which was the recent supreme court ruling and notable anti-migrant declarations, we not longer endorse the UK as a safer country. It still may be a good choice for those in extreme danger but proceed with caution.
We include the UK grudgingly as the laws currently on the books in terms of protections are decent, the trends we see in the political life there however do not look good in the future as it lives up to it’s nickname of TERF Island. Medical access in particular is heavily attacked as of posting.

Colombia is definitely not one of the safest countries, but it ranks well ahead of the US and with a very low cost of living this could be a great option for remote workers. As always with any colonial country any migration should be mindful of the indigenous populations.

New Zealand has all the problems of any settler colonial state with tensions between indigenous populations & the settler class. We recommend seeking other options if you are not Maori. Politically they have taken a rightward turn in recent years and this may undo many recent liberalizing advances.

Ayham - a trans man from Jordan.

His family forces him to live as a woman, threatening to send him to a mental institution, while his tribe has openly threatened to kill him.

No where is safe. There is only relative safety. Creating migration contingency plans is a wise idea, but wherever you are, you ought to invest your energy in mutual aid networks for food, shelter, and healthcare - locally, regionally, and internationally.

No one will save us but ourselves.

Getting word that New Zealand may implement severe restrictions to an outright ban on puberty blockers in coming months. PATHA has released a statement.

There’s a reason I’ve been leaving NZ off of my list of countries to flee to when people ask.

Australia could be a good option for Commonwealth citizens. Although, like any settler colonial state it has tensions between the settler class and the indigenous Aboriginal people. Trans rights are relatively secure and work is available.

Uruguay is a risky choice. Financially it is best suited to remote workers as job opportunities are few. While it has good legal protections on the books it also has a rather high homicide rater when it comes to trans people. Approach with caution.

While South Africa still experiences massive racial and economic inequality, the legal protections for trans people are quite good. This could be a good option for Black people who do not want to be in a white majority country. Social safety and acceptance breakdown largely along class lines.

By all reports, Austria has a thriving trans scene in the larger cities, is well connected to the rest of Europe by rail, and despite risks of right wing political movements, remains one of the better options in Europe.
