I have a completely unreliable superpower called hot flashes. I go into a store, and half way through shopping I feel like I'm in a sauna. I go to my car and open the windows in 40 degree weather like it is totally normal. Seasonal defective and this bullshit, how am I supposed to hold onto sanity?

Nobody told me exactly how easy it is to pull muscles when you are over 45. I mean, yeah, I'd heard people talk about throwing out their back by sneezing. I didn't sneeze, I just twisted the wrong way while sitting down. Now my left hip hates me. Getting up from sitting is a new form of torture.

I was such an MTV kid that when I listen to old songs, quite often I hallucinate/play back the videos as I listen to the music. I didn't realize this until I listened to a particular song and became aware of the images playing in my head. I'm fascinated by my brain, it holds on to some weird stuff.

As a child that grew up when 80's music was happening, it is surreal to listen to some of those songs and realize that we've been living this bullshit right along. It is undeniably right in our faces now, but it was always there, if you listen to the lyrics. Music is history, unvarnished.

Emailed my Senators. Tried to call and leave a message - voicemail is full. Keep up the calls and emails, folks. Healthcare is important to us all and to threaten it for trans people is to threaten it for us all.

This is my life now, an hour+ yesterday trying to get a prescription. Today a half hour trying to get someone at the pharmacy. This is normal, this is our reality. We got spoiled for a time there when we could get almost anything within a day's time.

Found out this morning that it is possible for pets to get Covid, after my boy cat has been snuggling with me for the past 24 hours like it was his job. I really hope the kitties don't get it. This sucks and I'm kind of mad at the world right now.

Readying for parental visit. Gonna cook, sightsee, and do home maintenance. Unfortunately, can't take them to the cat cafe this visit, because that's how we end up with a new cat and I'm not sure I'm ready for more chaos.

Had a nice little birthday date with my wifey, @pmfrlyn.bsky.social, today. We went out for lunch, checked out a couple of shops, and walked by the water for a bit. We saw two river otters playing in the water. I think I'm old enough to enjoy simple birthdays.

We may not have fireflies out here in the PNW, but we make up for it with enormous dragonflies in a variety of colors. I've been so happy to see them zooming around.

Also foraged food rocks. Our local farmer's market group gets some awesome stuff. So far I've had mushrooms, ferns, and today sea beans. I look forward to new things as the year goes by.
