I find this official post from my prime minister this weekend intriguing, because you could copy and paste "American" and "the United States" in there right now and it would sound pretty damned relevant... 🤔
The reports of violence, arbitrary arrests, and intimidation tactics by the Iranian regime against its own people are profoundly concerning. Canada strongly condemns the killing of protesters, and urges Iran to allow for freedom of expression and peaceful assembly without fear of reprisal.

This kind of messaging could not more clearly say "I am a badly-written villain from an uninspired episode of a low budget Star Wars television show" if it tried. It also reeks of desperation, so get out there today NYC and show the bastards how resistance is done.

If a sitting president can openly muse about arresting and disappearing someone who is likely to become mayor of the country's largest city, while also getting the funding for a massive secret police, it'd be hard to find sufficient evidence to qualify that country as a democracy.
