Had fab time at Mac Demarco gig at the Apollo last night. I was literally the only old person in the room, everyone else in their 20s including Blake who is really the target audience. I love the new album though and it was fun being among The Young, watching Mac goofing about doing handstands etc ❤️

For those interested in this kind of thing (ie all of you) this new book by @naomialderman.bsky.social is out now and it's FANTASTIC. Don't Burn Anyone At The Stake today is the title, and it covers the current information crisis we are living through, set in the context of previous ones.
a friend sent me a text just now saying “looks like Tim Davie is being burned at the stake today”

And yeah. This is very much “Thomas Moore is accused of not supporting the break with Rome, find a way to get his head off”. it‘s the information crisis.

Nice!
Well then. A blessing. I was lucky enough to see @ben-watt.bsky.social and @traceythorn.bsky.social #EverythingButTheGirl tonight. A glorious, career-spanning set in a tiny club. Among the most special gigs to which I have ever been ❤️

They’ve got a “Halloween trail” going on up at Kenwood, so it’s all plastic skeletons and polystyrene gravestones everywhere. Looks like a shit Traitors.

Same. I was a million miles from New York City, but I bought a suit jacket to try and look like Annie Hall, and I never stopped loving Diane Keaton. Properly sad she's gone ❤️
Oh man, I loved Diane Keaton— Annie Hall had such a huge influence on me as a teen, everything about her style & her energy, the clothes she wore & the way she talked! She just felt like such a model of New York City intellectual life, jittery & adventurous & original

Currently reading the fantastic John Martyn biog by @graemethomson.bsky.social and walked across Hampstead Heath this morning with this track blasting in my ears. Probably passed the very spot where that cover photo taken. open.spotify.com/track/1ea5h9...

Learning to play a piece called Show-Type Tune by Bill Evans, which is exactly what it sounds like - a kind of *show tune* which is really beautiful but then suddenly a bit *out there* because of course this is Bill Evans. I mean either that or I'm just getting the notes wrong.

Hundred more pages of Dracula this afternoon and I am now completely hooked. I would say it has got its teeth into me. I'm not even sure I WANT to be reading it, but I can't stop. Fucking VAMPIRE of a novel 😬
I’m curled up indoors, hiding from the rain, recovering from a flu jab, and reading Dracula. It’s fucking creepy isn’t it why didn’t you tell me. Brrrrrr

Listening to Blood Orange's Essex Honey yet again and thinking obviously the only reason it isn't on the Mercury list is because of deadlines or something and so it will win next year's prize because I mean COME ON

Our residency of gigs at the MOTH Club might look tiny - and yeah, the gigs ARE tiny - but to me it feels like a huge achievement. I’m proud of myself and also hugely grateful to the people who helped me get here. So peace and love to everyone. Life is surprising. Change is possible. On we go ❤️ 2/2

Happy Birthday to me. 63 years old today. This past year has been momentous for me, as I finally confronted and overcame a fear that has stood in my way for 25 years. Singing live again has been a joy these last few months. 1/2

Been in France for two days and you’ll be astonished to hear I’ve had too much to eat

In the last two days I have watched both The Sting and All The President's Men, out of RESPECT. They left me with two key thoughts. 1) I am a complete child of the 70s. 2)My god they don't make film stars like that any more.

The years go by and I’m STILL learning to play Bill Evans’ Waltz for Debby. I’m getting better!

A HUNDRED??!! Dear god I only like about 4 of them 😄
What about choosing say 100 of your favourite songs , written by you I mean , and expand on them . What they are about , and who what where why . Etc .

I seem to have really convinced myself that if I move my desk into a different position in this room I will get a great idea for a new book

New centre-left Labour group Mainstream is launching tomorrow, key backers include Andy Burnham and all of the below.

Pitches itself as “the home for Labour’s radical realists” and will play key role in the deputy leadership contest.

Lovely night of song with Tracey Thorn, Ben Watt, son Blake & bassist at Moth Club, Hackney. Starting at start of partnership with ‘Night & Day’, set included EBTG classics, solo stuff & covers of Bowie, Lenker & Bridget St John. ‘Walking Wounded’ material a highlight, espesh moody pulsing ‘Single’

Update: gig was amazing and not least because the Pet Shop Boys came to see us, no YOU'RE screaming ❤️❤️ Anyway, doing it all again tonight hooray!
Back in my little home-from-home, the dressing room at the MOTH Club. Soundcheck in a minute. Then some hanging around. Then onstage again ❤️
