When BART went down for a day back in May because of a network issue, ok, fine—freak things happen, computers are annoying sometimes.

Having it happen again, on a weekday, is unacceptable and calls into question the agency’s basic competence.

My alma mater never really had enough of a sports footprint to stand in for a type of guy, the way that Notre Dame and USC do. Until now. Between Halliburton and Purdy, I feel like we have the “wholesome but annoying overachiever” lane locked down.

The year is 2045. A new kitschy 2020s-themed bar is opening up. It’s called The Lockdown. You wear a mask until you get to your barstool, which is surrounded by plastic partitions. Tiger King is on.

I know it’s like the 27th weirdest thing that happened today, but I can’t stop thinking about the Noem bag story. Does every admin official carry a go bag around? Is Hegseth carrying a case of whiskey with him everywhere he goes?

I was very much a bit player in the civic tech movement, but I was there, and I’m here to report back that “government by giving the smartest boys access to the computer” is something to laugh at, not fear

Anyone in Berkeley want some homebrewing gear?

I appreciate Costco Auto, but I feel like they should offer a $500 discount if you replace the nameplate with Kirkland

My dumbest but most sincerely held Berkeley public policy idea is that we should build a gondola that runs from Marin+Grizzly Peak to Monterey Market

2000 University Ave can support an eatery that stays open even later than this. I just have a feeling.

This Bay Area pizzeria became a national hit. Now, it’s expanding
Berkeley's wildly popular Rose Pizzeria is opening an all-day cafe called Cafe Brusco with coffee, sandwiches and more.

Jerry Jones buying Spurs is not the worst case scenario. John Fisher is the worst. Jerry Jones would be #2.

It turns out that when an office full of people get an emergency alert to duck and cover for an earthquake, what everyone actually does is look at each other and say “huh, wonder if that’s a test or something”
