The midterms aren't for almost a full year. The winners wouldn't be seated until January 2027. They were never going to force the shutdown to last until then, the toll would be unimaginable. So... It had to end. And Republicans are too fucking awful to do anything but hurt people, so here we are.

Dems shut the government down for 40 days, through an absolute blue tsunami election... And Republicans still refused to budge at all. The last major shutdown was ended because Democrats took over the House and were able to force some sense in there.
