if you care about other people or have any sort of moral or ethical lines which you refuse to cross, eventually you get fired or froze out or just stop getting promoted, & that's why everyone at the top is an evil brainless sack of shite

i know i'm a "purpose of a system is what it does" kinda guy, but functionally speaking, it does feel like universities have two roles in modern society:

gatekeeping high paid jobs, and forcing people who aren't from generational wealth to be loaded with debt
