I was thrilled to hear about the surface code when Alexei Kitaev visited @caltech.edu in April 1997. It's heartening to see the hardware catching up with the theory of quantum error correction. There's still far to go but this is encouraging progress.

Quantum Computers Cross Critical Error Threshold | Quanta Magazine
In a first, researchers have shown that adding more “qubits” to a quantum computer can make it more resilient. It’s an essential step on the long road to practical applications.

Unveiling Order in Apparent Quantum Randomness

#Quantum physics isn’t as random as once thought. Recent discoveries show a surprising degree of predictability and control. By refining our understanding of measurement, we’ve even learned to reverse quantum jumps.

Scientists, academics, researchers: We’re excited to share that @altmetric.com is now tracking mentions of your research on Bluesky! 🧪
There are already many articles for which there is more attention on Bluesky than on other comparable micro-blogging sites, meaning the academic community and the general public have clearly adopted Bluesky as one of its core places to disseminate and discuss new research.

A Place of Joy.

We should make it the official quantum Bluesky policy that the release of every new paper must be announced by a meme summarizing the main result. Here are some examples... 🧵
