Cascade Locks is one of the most beautiful small towns in the US. It is in Hood River county which is considered a democratic stronghold. But all the coffee shops are explicitly owned by Christian Nationalists.

I think I need to open an Everyone Else coffee shop here. 😌

I had therapists tell me that my relationships with fellow exvangelicals was trauma bonding. Nope. Spending time with people who relate to your lived experience is totally normal and healthy.

Here’s an accessible overview of trauma bonding.

i loooove Bad Flag discourse 😍

This is Portland’s (OR) flag. Does it totally suck? No. Is it totally awesome? Also no. Yet it’s sometimes considered one of the best city flags in the nation!

Why does Portland HAVE a flag? No clue. We are neither at war nor at sea! Alas.

just discovered the british dish jellied eels. it is precisely as described. i respect any foods created out of desperation and survival. i also see why colonization may have felt like a good idea. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jellied...

“I have seven books, it’s sort of an emergency,” I say as I unload the basket of exclusively science fiction titles onto the counter in front of the employee at Powell’s.

“It wouldn’t be Sunday without emergency Isaac Asimov” they joked.

i love it here.

it was originally way more eye catching as part of the skyline! less competition! dont tell anyone but… as a Portlander, I am still jealous that Seattle got such a unique skyline. we may never compare.

this reminded me of the time my 13yo joked that my mom should have had an abortion which remains probably the best joke anyone has ever made at my expense.
