This a critical point, executive orders are not immutable. As @themaxburns.bsky.social writes "lawsuits still represent the most direct way regular people can play a role in stopping potential executive overreach."

We're not powerless.
Keep in mind that executive orders are not laws. They are directives from the President that manage the operation of the federal government. They have force of law, but Congress can block funding, they can be legally challenged, and may not change existing state laws.
There’s hardly a corner of American life left untouched by his Sharpie stained barrage of executive orders.

Except maybe lowering the price of eggs.

Mike Johnson and Republicans have refused for the last two years to put up this plaque honoring law enforcement officers that served on Jan. 6 and Donald Trump just pardoned 1,500 Jan. 6 defendants. Remind me again who is the Party of law and order?

Just a reminder, apropos of nothing going on today, that you can mute words here on bluesky and set timeframes for when they will be unmuted. 💙

If you Google "inauguration day," you're greeted with an animation of fireworks forming the shape of the American flag. Google has never done something like this for the inauguration, sources told me, out of fear of appearing partisan. But that's changed now, with Sergey and Sundar attending.
