it's tricky with this one because he is legit adorable and friendly and then randomly feral

the funny thing is, I am actually really adept at petting and then twisting and withdrawing my hand in exactly the right way. My visiting friends, even regular ones, I always have to try to impress upon them that the little fuck cannot be trusted.

I tried, but mine fell in love with her claws 🤷‍♂️

cat, five minutes later: cuddling up adorably as if none of this ever happened

It becomes second nature to factor in subway/walk time, to know when to leave. You know you've got it down when you don't waste time on either end.

I think getting around NYC is easier than almost anywhere. You get on the train and go somewhere, you don't have to worry about traffic or parking, unless you're one of those weirdos who drives in this city. But, like, from where I live, it's a half hour downtown, 45m to an hour to Brooklyn.

and look I'm not even getting into that amazing glass skyscraper room that in no way fits into the architecture of the Continental, nor the fact that the Continental rooftop garden inexplicably is right across from St. Patrick's (it was filmed in the garden at 30 Rock)

a tangential memory, getting off a plane from Milan a couple years ago during which I finally had a chance to watch JW4, and overhearing someone behind me saying "I watched John Wick 4 but fast forwarded through all the action crap, it wasn't a very good movie"
November 11, 2025 at 1:48 AM
I know the Wick movies are not big on plausibility but I'm kinda stuck on the "running to Times Square and *then* taking a cab to NYPL but getting stuck in traffic part"

and secondarily somehow getting to the Bowery from NYPL in five minutes
November 11, 2025 at 1:46 AM
... tells the cab driver, who is of course in the secret world, to take his dog to the Continental

5:45, roughly: Makes it to NYPL, has a big fight, is wounded

5:55: has somehow made it to the Bowery in time to get 5 minutes of medical care

That's quite an hour in New York!

yeah, I have been. I don't do hugely exaggerated caricature, so if people don't notice, not much I can do about that.

the thing with jokes is, there's gotta be a joke in there somewhere. If you're faking a news site or a white house press release, it better be really fucking obvious satire, or else you are part of the problem.
