An Outlander made in Aberdeen. Cosmopolitan at heart, a humanist by nature, and an incorrigible optimist.

"The opinions expressed are my own and do not represent the views of my employer."
Far-right protests in Aberdeen are escalating, targeting asylum seekers with abuse & threats. This is causing fear, disruption & possible criminal offences. Police must act with the same urgency shown elsewhere. Freedom of speech isn’t freedom from consequence.

For three weeks in Aberdeen, far-right groups have targeted people seeking asylum. This is escalating from nightly abuse to physical and death threats. A disabled man was racially abused and another ambushed. People are targeted going to the mosque.

The legal aid crisis means 'equality of arms' in Scotland's JP courts is a myth. Like pitting plate armour against a potato peeler. If solicitors can't afford to be there, why not permit lay representatives in criminal proceedings? Urgent reform is needed. #AccessToJustice #LawScot

It pains me to witness the collapse of the rule-based post-war order. The ongoing conflicts in Gaza, Ukraine and now Kashmir reflect a disintegrating international system that, despite its imperfections, represented a significant civilisational advancement.

Courageous, yet humble; righteous, yet gentle. A man who displayed greatness in simplicity.

May all Catholics take the banners of social justice, equality and ecology.

All that remains is hope. Gracias Papa Francisco.

[Χρησιμοποιείστε Google Translate ή Deepl] unherd.com/2025/04/will...

The human face of all those bullshit, blue tick Twitter accounts full of racism, lies, cowardice & cruelty…
Here's Marjorie Taylor Greene literally telling a British reporter to "go back to your country" and berating her for trying to ask a question.

"We don't give a CRAP about your opinion."

Barriers to a legal aid career are high. The DPLP—our so-called “gateway”—costs about £10,200, yet SAAS offers only £7K for tuition and £4.5K for living. With annual living costs of £12–15K (£17.5K in Glasgow), it's really more of a golden gate for those that can afford it.
