The legal aid crisis means 'equality of arms' in Scotland's JP courts is a myth. Like pitting plate armour against a potato peeler. If solicitors can't afford to be there, why not permit lay representatives in criminal proceedings? Urgent reform is needed. #AccessToJustice #LawScot

Since moving to Aberdeen, I've noticed that Thomas Reid's underrecognised. Born in Aberdeenshire, he studied and taught at the UoA, yet only a humble plaque marks his legacy. While David Hume boasts an impressive statue on the Royal Mile there's not even a street in Reid's memory.

Today, I'm proudly wearing the tartan scarf of the @scotrefugeecouncil.bsky.social . This beautiful tartan symbolises Scotland's diversity.
Refugees are protected by international law to safeguard people from persecution. E.g Einstein, Freud, Trotsky and Isabel Allende were distinguished refugees.
