I just submitted three poems to a journal with exactly five minutes left in their two month reading period because I’m really bad at this whole thing.

I am the king of a kingdom of thimbles,
I am the vulture of a far-off wilderness.
I am an evening shadow and when

You wipe my forehead clean
my body will crumble to the floor:
From dust you came,
And dust you shall return.

First poetry acceptance of the year! I will be reading at a performance of Hayden’s Seven Last Words on Good Friday at the coolest bookstore in San Diego. I’ll actually be reading the first poem I ever saw published at a now defunct and sorely missed magazine [RIP The Curator]

Got my first poetry acceptance of the year and it’s at a dream publication except the poem got picked up somewhere else and the editorial team missed my withdrawal email… 😭😭😭 Super embarrassing and disappointing but can’t wait for you to read the poem

We've stumbled onto a truism of the American church re: the national prayer service -

Something from the pulpit is only "political" if it disagrees with the hearer's politics.

NEW REVIEW of the latest collection from @scottcairnspoet.bsky.social
"It is love, Cairns suggests, that empowers the poem. Any further translation or engagement with poetry is a witness to love’s ongoing inspiration." https://buff.ly/4a5VPLT

Now, I want to address this— this situation— if you want to call it that— I guess it’s a situation we have going on down in Mexico— where else, where else—

It was a real pleasure to review Scott Cairns’ newest book ‘Correspondence with My Greeks’ for
The Englewood Review of Books. The poems are at once funny, soulful, and comforting.

Starting off the new year with three and a half drafts of new poems. A duplex, a poor approximation of terza rim , a sonnet and a half.

Probably should have taken a family photo, you all look lovely. This nearly counts. My family’s most sacred tradition is the annual book exchange. There’s specific rules for the exchange we don’t remember and so we make up our own rules. Who knows what rules we’ll follow in 2025. Merry Christmas!

The turn at the end of this poem by Kyla Houbt @luaz.bsky.social is
spectacular! Each lines is so rich. What a lovely Christmas poem.
