If you're a food writer of any prominence you're going to get more attention and possibly special treatment at dinner. Hiding your identity is one way to have a normal-ass meal on a personal night out instead of sending a kitchen into overdrive over your existence

Casar: You can quickly explain Doge with just two numbers.

First: $8 million a day. That’s how much Elon Musk collects in federal government contracts.

Second: $65 a day. That’s how much the average senior—someone who has worked their entire life—gets from Social Security.…

We were told it was an antisemitic blood libel to speculate that the IDF would attack a medical facility. Now, the last remaining cancer hospital in Gaza has shut down after being bombed. Any pretense of concern for Palestinian life has been replaced by brazen indifference.
Israel bombed Gaza’s last cancer & cardiac hospital, then released a video claiming Hamas tunnels were below it.

Now they admit the footage was from somewhere else.

The hospital is shut, and innocent people died.

Israel concedes error in video claiming to show Hamas tunnels under hospital
The Israeli military says a video it released that claimed to show Hamas-built tunnels underneath a southern Gaza hospital actually show different buildings.

Disaster Awaits Us if the NIH Dies
We need to be sending more federal research dollars to more people in more places. Instead, the government is doing the opposite.

Wired magazine falls for Bluesky's BS that it's decentralized. It could be, but it isn't.

This is tech journalism of the old style: credulous worship that isn't close to being justified by the reality.

Wired is better than this, or should be.

The birthright citizenship argument and AEA ruling both implicate the same questions: When can #SCOTUS rulings benefit non-parties; and when can lower-court rulings do the same?

Today's "One First" looks at how the (clear) answer to the former ought to bear upon the (murkier) answer to the latter:
152. Non-Party Relief and Judicial Supremacy
Thursday's birthright citizenship oral argument hits at least somewhat different after and in light of Friday's Alien Enemies Act ruling—in which the Court ... provided relief to non-parties.
