95. ABSOLUTE BATMAN vol 1 by Snyder, Dragotta, Martin

Fun for a few issues in a “how far over the top can this go?” way but (unlike the character) it’s a little thin despite chunky, kinetic art. Best idea is Bruce’s nemeses being his scrappy pals in this reality

This would have been bought in John Menzies, Leatherhead.

I spent my money on computer games, comics and D&D books and tended to rely on the radio and my mates for music so this was a late start. Who finally got me to part with money for a record? The thinking man's Limahl of course

94. BOOKS DO FURNISH A ROOM by Anthony Powell

The narrator gets a job as literary editor for a post-war left-wing mag; hijinks ensue. The central story of broke novelist X Trapnel’s affair with Widmerpool’s demonic wife is one of the sequence’s best

93. SUPERMAN THE EXILE OMNIBUS by Ordway, Jurgens, Perez, Stern, Gammill et al

Comfort reading from the late 80s, the proto “triangle era” as the Superman creators work out that they’re telling one long soap opera story in weekly instalments and start to approach Peak Reliability

92. TSUBASA RESERVOIR CHRONICLE OMNIBUS vol 1 by CLAMP

Took forever to finish because I found it completely impossible to care about the story but loved dipping in a chapter at a time to CLAMP’s ectastic, stormy art - magical battles as huge romantic sweeps of the pen
