This week is Road Safety Week & a chance to talk about Barbara Castle!

Barbara was Transport Minister for three years yet she was able to introduce the Breathalyzer, a proper integrated transport strategy & more!

This was done despite fierce opposition.

The Pennines are an unbroken chain of upland areas from near Stoke to Scotland.

But looking closely at a map of protected landscapes like national parks – the chain is broken between the Peaks and the Dales.

Why is this one area not protected - and should it be?

On the morning of Keir Starmer's conference speech here's a new post on an odd psychopathology in British politics - our main parties don't like the people who vote for them - the dreaded Professional Managerial Class. And so they are acting out like a divorced dad seeking cooler voters. 1/n

#NRLTitansStorm that shamozzle just about sums this game up. Storm rewarded for being ugly in the PTB then score. Titans backline need therapy to get over their fear of the ball.

#NRL #NRLRaidersBulldogs would not want to be one of the Doggies players with the spray they're about to get. Raiders setting a high water mark with that first half.

#NRL #NRLRaidersBulldogs nice Raiders try. Had no issue with previous no try call apart from how long it took.

Really important and moving account of state failure in this weekend's @financialtimes.com that is free to read for all here:
My brother, the NHS and the inquest into a needless death
My brother spent the last hours of his life trying in vain to get basic help from the NHS. Why?

Dazed and Confused was released in 1993, about a day in 1976. A comparable movie released in 2025 would be set in . . . 2008

About a 10th of the number of Ukrainian refugee children state schools took in without any panicked coverage.

Such nonsense.
There are more than 10m children in school in the UK…but, per Times, 3,000 might move to state sector because of VAT rise…so Whitehall is “braced” 😲😲😲

Says a lot about UK media bubble, the way this story is reported.

You pay VAT on luxuries. Private schooling is that.

This is a terrible example of "party brain" at work.

The question isn't "how do you beat Reform?" - which would be a wholly illegitimate way to make this decision.

It's "how do we stop foreign (& indeed domestic) money from subverting our democracy?"

That's much bigger than the fate of one party
