Surprisingly, Houdini's Copernicus is already good enough to replace Substance Designer! It still has some performance issues and weird quirks, but I think Copernicus is really good, and I'm sure it will improve with the next versions.

Made some Will-o’-the-Wisp kind of thing this evening!

The effect uses real-time fluid simulation for the flame and some simple Niagara particles on top. Surprisingly, fluid simulation is *really* good for stylized flame effects!

Some texturing WIP 🎨

I couldn't rely on UVs (the building is procedural), so I decided to use some shader math magic: tri-planar mapping and height blending!

I blend 2 materials using a Perlin noise as an alpha, and it works surprisingly well!

Took a while, but I'm finally done with the house geometry!

I really would love to show the procedural aspects of it (you can configure the building size, roof shape, ivy, and so on), but making a proper showcase with animations is time-consuming, so I'll show it later.

Unity 6 gives me hope, that they started to care more about game developers rather than shareholders. New graphics features are genuinely good and interesting! Also, it seems like they're finally focused on polishing existing things, rather than introducing a ton of new ones.

It's a huge pleasure to use Unreal after Unity! Every aspect is so polished. It provides amazing results with little to no tweaks. The UI and UX are great, tools are intuitive... I just can't!

As a C# programmer, trying C++ in Unreal feels so freaking powerful. I can do anything and there is no way to stop it, it's just raw power 🤩!
And yeah, I've already managed to crush the editor a dozen times. It's fine though, it's learning.
