It's grim. See page 105. The academic research fleet gets a 40% cut. Not sure about NDSF. Also just stunning to see all the postdoc programs zeroed out (page 28). nsf-gov-resources.nsf.gov/files/00-NSF...

Was just discussing this. There's no measure for success. If you wrote 10 reports this week, is that enough or too few, and who says? What if next week, it's only 5? Goodbye.

What if you made up a bunch of gobbledygook jargon, arranged it in five bullets, and nobody noticed?

Glad to see this point being made. It’s not just about the govt staff. Firing agency staff AND capping universities’ overhead costs AND freezing grant funding are like blocks in a Jenga tower. Before you know it, the towers collapse, and the towers are U.S. capability in entire fields of science.

This article does a good job describing the scope and impact of what happened at NSF yesterday. The details of how these cuts played out for individuals are appalling. www.npr.org/2025/02/18/n...
National Science Foundation fires roughly 10% of its workforce
NSF fired 168 employees, leaving the agency less equipped to fund a wide range of scientific research.

Only strange? What about dangerous and illegal. When will Democrats stop pulling their punches?
February 18, 2025 at 9:08 PM
Democrats lose because they let Republicans frame the issues. Trump wants you to talk about efficiency and waste. Instead talk about the human cost of these firings, or the blatant quid pro quo corruption at DOJ, etc. Highlight the areas where the law, and common decency are on your side. Be brave!

It’s not just about the people. When they cut the staff who evaluate the proposals AND cap the universities’ overhead costs AND freeze the grant funding, it’s like blocks in a Jenga tower. Before you know it, the towers collapse, and the towers are U.S. capability in entire fields of science.

What if he signed an EO declaring that the President must be addressed as "His Excellency," and punished people who didn't use those words. This should not be hard.

If he signed an EO declaring that the President should henceforth be called "His Excellency," and then punished folks who didn't use those words, I think people would understand that as a problem.

Ack. Mine is closing too in Falls Church, VA.
