Currently proud to be a @reed.edu alum.

For the rest of the signatories, hello I am on the academic job market in 2025.
Brief from the Presidents’ Alliance on Higher Education and more than 80 universities says arrests and deportations of student protesters create a “climate of fear” at universities across the country. This is a big deal—the first time universities have weighed in. knightcolumbia.org/documents/eh...

“Fascism, as well as ostensible crisis of national character that fascists use to justify it, are both very frightening to me”—while fascists are currently in power—can only be read as fascist apologia.
Wild to be up against naked fascism and the dismantling of human rights, separation of powers and free speech and be like man these guys kidnapping people and sending them to camps are making me just as worried as the wokes who hate when you say slurs. American centrism is awesome

Tarik is absolutely correct and we American academics need to develop a collective response.

How can we continue to support our academic community and worthwhile professional organizations while also withholding the economic stimulus of our meetings to send a message to relevant stakeholders?
At this point, it is obvious that it is not safe for scholars to travel the US. There are no easy solutions for conferences scheduled in the US this year but it should be cleary to everyone involved that they cannot just go ahead as planned.

When JD Vance called to 'attack universities,' he meant faculty and students. Both are the 'enemy.'

When he praises Orban’s approach to 'left wing domination of universities,' he means privatizing public universities and placing them under the control of right-wing foundations led by Trump allies.
