They should ask if they are catering to one expression of masculinity at the expense of excluding a broad spectrum of what godly masculinity can look like. If men were simply encouraged and discipled into becoming more like Jesus rather than trying to fit into a masculinity box and

Men's ministries in churches should regularly ask themselves whether they are making men more like an idea of masculinity than like Jesus. They should ask if they are adequately challenging commonly held ideas of masculinity or if they are merely baptizing them with a men's breakfast.

If it is, it's a caricature of Jesus that fits the strong warrior ideal rather than the humble and meek servant. And the only way you can become more like Jesus is to be driven by your love of Jesus rather than any kind of fear, especially the fear of not fitting a gender mold.

and the like are tossed around as insults, and floral shirts have become the butt of jokes in these circles. The goal often is to be seen as heterosexual and "manly" as possible.

Very little is actually centered on becoming more like Jesus - which is also what women are called to be like as well.
