As folks head into the No Kings protests around the nation, those who follow Jesus should reflect on this painting by James B. Janknegt called "Scourging at the Pillar." The artist's depiction of the soldiers who flogged Jesus as contemporary military and law enforcement reminds us that our

If ICE doesn't have the correct warrant, you have every right to tell them to get off private property. This includes sections of church buildings designated as private.

No matter what, you can demand they identify themselves and which agency they are a part of. You can record them.

This Sunday, we are going to be discussing what the purpose of the church is and what it means to be Jesus' hands and feet in the world.

This will be the third message in the Our Guiding Principles series, where we have been talking about the core communal practices of City of Refuge.

The Bible is a mega-narrative of immigration. Sin drove humanity from their original home in Eden. God calls Abraham away from his homeland as a sojourner. Israel migrates to the Promised Land. Israel is called to have compassion for sojourners. Israel is exiled and lives in a country not their own

It’s always fascinating to me when “Romans 13,” “rule of law,” “following the law,” “submitting to authorities,” and other similar phrases are thrown out by Christians. Nearly every time they pop up, you can be sure that it’s never about submitting to authorities that want to implement

I wanted to take a moment to help provide a more nuanced understanding of Calvinism (and I’d argue, a more historically accurate understanding) to address both misunderstandings and caricatures that have been brought forth by both non-Calvinists and self-identifying Calvinists alike.

If you want to know more about City of Refuge, this Sunday we'll be starting a series on our 9 Guiding Principles.

We'll be talking about the first guiding principle: Jesus’ Great Commission and Greatest Commandment are two sides of the same coin. We love the Lord by loving our neighbors.

You've heard it, I've heard it: "No real Evangelical" or "No real Christian" would support Donald Trump.

Not only is that factually untrue, not only is it also a logical fallacy called the "No true Scotsman," but it is truly just a way to dodge responsibility for keeping your peeps accountable.

Unlike modern Western Christianity’s tendency to ask, “What do you say you believe?” the Bible asks, “What does the pattern of your life reveal about what you truly believe?” Or, as Rich Mullins once sang, “Faith w/o works… is about as useless as a screen door on a submarine.”

*not an April fools' joke!*

This Saturday 4/5 is an opportunity to stand up and against this administration. Trump, Musk, and company act as though our country belongs to them, and this is your chance to say, "Hands Off!" through direct nonviolent action.

I hope Christians realize that the Bible has a lot of "anti-American" things to say, and in fact, to be a faithful follower of Jesus, there will be times when we are required to voice some “anti-American” content because they are fundamentally contrary with the ways of Jesus and

Since DEI, racial justice, antiracism, and the like are getting outlawed at the federal level and in several states as well, it's time to get a refresher on some of these "illegal" terms and concepts.

Like the severed floor in Severance, I’ve seen so many people jettison everything once they enter the realm of the church and become supporters of abusers, victim-blamers, “neutral” parties who decide to remain silent, and those who simply take what their leaders say without any
