My article "The Bible, the Holocaust, and eliminatory stands among Israelis: a survey analysis" has been published.
Main takeaway: The relations between the memory of the Holocaust and genocidal attitudes are more complex than what is commonly assumed:

Since October 2023, calls for ethnic cleansing and genocidal acts against Palestinians have become increasingly mainstream in Israeli politics. This article examines the role of the Bible and colle...

On March 27, the Israeli Supreme Court issued a decision that allowed the government to mass kill by starvation: "The very act of providing aid, as well as the manner and scope of that aid, are subject to the broad discretion of the government and the IDF, and there is no grounds for our (1/2)

In Mondoweiss they misread the numbers. According to the article in Haaretz, the 64% refers to Israeli citizens, including Palestinians, who agree that "there are no innocents in Gaza". If you do the math based on the number provided, among Jewish Israelis the right number is 76%.
A Hebrew University poll shows an overwhelming majority of Jewish Israelis agree with the genocidal idea that there are “no innocents in Gaza.”

The UN’s World Food Programme (WFP) says its food stocks in Gaza are completely depleted, as Israel’s aid blockade continues for an eighth week.

Another episode in the politics of denial: anti-genocide protesters in Tel Aviv are now prohibited from displaying photos of murdered Palestinian children.

The current constitution—written by slaveholders in the 18th century—has brought us to this crisis. Without envisioning a new one, there is no path forward.

We can stop this.
In 1964, UC Berkeley students nonviolently obstructed the transport of arrested Free Speech activists by completely surrounding the police car

This should happen to every ICE vehicle until the kidnappings stop. You might literally save someone from a concentration camp

A message from a friend in Gaza. Does anyone care?

"Gaza is being silently eradicated.
The markets are empty
The displaced are sleeping on the streets
Children and women are hungry
The elderly are dying from a lack of medicine and medical supplies
Gaza is hungry
Gaza is thirsty"

1/4. On the White House’s theory, if they abduct you, get you on a helicopter, get to international waters, shoot you in the head, and drop your corpse into the ocean, that is legal, because it is the conduct of foreign affairs.

Ivy League universities now reveal what they have always been: instrumental, sycophantic institutions that align themselves with prevailing political power. When slavery was legal, they profited from it. (1/2)

If we ever escape this mess, we should rebuild universities as democratic institutions. The current system elevates sycophants to top administrative positions in higher education. Had the faculty elected the Columbia "leaders", the latter wouldn’t have collaborated with the regime.

I can't believe people seriously talk about the next election as a way out of this mess. In Trump-controlled states, the regime controls the voting registration and the counting. Dems would never win a majority in the House under these conditions. Flood the streets, strike, shut the country down.

Netanyahu has not allowed any food, water, or fuel into Gaza in two weeks.

Now he has resumed bombing, killing hundreds of people and breaking the ceasefire that had given Gaza a chance to live again.

Netanyahu has held up a mirror to Felix Klein and Bernard-Henri Lévy. By legitimizing him, they have, in turn, legitimized the extreme right in their own countries. They failed to see it—until Netanyahu forced them to confront a harsh and uncomfortable truth.

MAGA leaders are immoral, corrupt & dangerous. Many Dem leaders lack courage or a sense of urgency about the threats we face. But most of them (not all--AOC is an exception) are also devoid creativity or a commitment to progress. They're addicted to the status quo.

In 1992, uproar erupted in the Israeli parliament when Palestinian MP Tawfiq Zayyad compared a right-wing MP to Jean-Marie Le Pen. It was deemed an insult. Today, the leader of Le Pen's party is welcomed as an official guest of the Israeli government. Israeli society has lost its shame.
