Thank you FB bot for stirring the pot and prompting this fresh take to be shared that creating safe separated places for people to ride is counter to reducing one’s carbon footprint. 🤦‍♂️

This seems excessively wide with room to keep parking even with the bike lanes. Why has nobody questioned the excessive width for the driving lane on this dead-end road? 🤷‍♂️

The CBE board of trustees looks a little different than YYC City Council. Can you spot the difference?

The new multi-use pathway on north side of Bow River east of 14 St NW is taking shape… although it looks narrower than how it was depicted in the imagery provided. Seems like the idea of h-bing separate walking and wheeling space has been abandoned. 👎

Maybe, what could be the longest (100m) dashed green bike lane in an exit lane, could be made a little safer? 🤔

It would be for accessing SAIT north bound on 10 St and for SAIT to access northbound 10 St. Currently neither are permitted.
November 9, 2025 at 1:59 AM
Hey #yycbike, the City plans to put in a traffic light on 10 St NW at the entrance to SAIT.

Thoughts?🤔

Further north in Souzhou where it’s cooler (relatively) all e-mopeds have these cozies on them. There like poggies but are like an entire jacket you have just when riding. Thought they were pretty cool.

Every major street has some form of separated and protected wheeling lane. Majority seem to use electric mopeds in these but there are still many bikes. Probably 80/20 split.

Did not see a single 2-stroke engine scooter, so it was quiet and clean. 👍

Spent some time recently driving around the Pearl River Delta area in Guandong Province, China.
Did not expect all highways to be tolled. 🤔

The location where Terry Tuck was hit by a driver and eventually died is now the Sheldon Chumir. The area has since had protected cycle track installed on two sides of it. 12 Ave and 5 St SW. I ride both regularly. 🙏

Thanks! So it’s $6.7M in societal costs in 2014 dollars… has there been any inflation in the last 10 years? 🧐

November riding in Calgary continues to be excellent with over 1,100 riders rolling by this counter on Wednesday by 4:30 PM.

This comment to a recent CH article about the high number of pedestrians killed by drivers is classic car brained thinking.

Imagine if people walking and bicycling followed the same thinking?

It’s like “I ran/biked an old lady down b/c traffic makes me so angry!”

So bizarre!

Pathway closure timelines are posted online here: maps.calgary.ca/PathwaysandB...

According to the latest, the section you mention will reopen at the end of the month. November seems like a risky month to be planning construction completion.

Princes Island Bridge ramp to North Bow River Pathway is now open for east bound riding.

We’re in the 11th month of the year and at 4 PM almost 1,100 people rode through this counter today on Calgary’s 5 St SW cycle track.

The annual counter maxed out its 350k limit over a month ago, and has maxed out before the year’s end for about a decade now.

In the comments of that article…
TLDR: Bike lanes make so drivers angry that they run over people walking
November 3, 2025 at 8:31 PM
Add an extra block of unprotected pathway between Bow River and 5 St SW cycle track.

This closure is NOT mentioned on the online cycle track map. 🤷‍♂️

This is what safe separated wheeling lanes look like in Dongguan, China.

The electric scooter also seems like a popular mode. These ones don’t appear to go any faster than an acoustic bicycle.
