I follow people who post in different areas but my posts will almost entirely be about cricket, and mostly twentieth century cricket. Mutuals who are not interested in cricket may find my feed a waste of time.
During Ecclestone's two spells, South Africa scored 81/6 in 18 overs. Outside it, 238/1 in 32 overs.

Baseball hasn't evolved to count the home runs and hits in case of a tie.

>> He got along well with the Maharaja and he returned to India as a coach in 1895–96 and 1899–1900. He would probably have done so in 1897–98 had he not been touring Australia.

Why the 2 year gaps? Did the professionals prefer to stay at home one winter and travel the next?

Robert Menzies threw a dinner for the cricketers at the Savoy :

"At one stage, Menzie began a story : 'As you all know, I am the man in Australia who has most often had the legitimacy of his birth queried ..'

'Surely, sir', came the voice of Jardine 'I still hold that honour.' "

On one occasion after a rain break in a county match, pressmen watched Hassett probing the pitch dubiously with his thumb. "Any chance of play", a reporter wondered.

"I dunno", Hassett replied. "I only do it to look intelligent In front of the crowd."

Beautiful video. Can see all that we may have read - the right foot dragging a long way, the left foot pounding the crease. As has been noted, it is impressive that his body withstood this pressure till the final Test.

And no Bodyline field.

Since we have so much money from the sales of Garnacho and Antony, can we pay some club to take Sancho.

A very random thing - in the 50 ball second wkt stand with Shafali, Dhara Gujjar faced 39 balls.

This unusually large percentage of strike was possible because off the other 11 balls, Shafali took 10 singles and hit a six. So except for the six, she turned over the strike after every ball.

I thought what Dare said is a bit different. In fascism, once you tick some specific boxes, you are in, and you stay in unless you do something very bad. You don't need to keep up with a constantly updated set of standards.

Even long before the boundaries, a big hit was a 'six', not four or five or seven.

".. far unlike the modern way
Of blocking ev'ry ball at play
He firmly stands with the bat upright
And strikes with his athletic might
Sends forth the ball across the mead
And scores six notches for the deed"

England has become too predictable. Most teams would bat first on this wicket. But India knew England would bowl. May be that is why they selected only one genuine attacking bowler (Siraj) and picked 3 all rounders. If England called their bluff & scored 400/4 on Day 1, it was all over for India

What was the role of Shilu Ranganathan in the team ? She passed away in March but the media hardly noticed it.

Singh's third over, turning point of the series. Dropped at 15* A huge 'what if'.

Cook hadn't reached 30 in 9 inns. Whitewashed in Aus, lost to SL at home, lost to India at Lord's. Not inconceivable that he would have been replaced if he failed. He scored 95 and England won with time to spare.

Random things you notice while going through this looking for Indian names is - V Palwanker played for Lancaster in 1964. Possible that he is related to Palwankar Baloo.

SK Shanker for Kendal in the late 1960s. Shares the name with a 1950s Sind cricketer, a rare Hindu cricketer in Pakistan.
