The Mires at Shakespeare & Co in Paris and Hatchards display at the Cheltenham Lit Festival. I can't be in those places so I am very grateful for friends who are! But golly I wish I could be in those places...

Tēnā koe Ōtepoti

Sometimes I get too busy & tired to celebrate what we do but just feeling joyful about good essays (Landfall launch tonight) and conversations about writing (Dunedin Writers Festival).

Plus beaut day. That helps!

The world is pretty scary right now and our govts are making things much worse, but sometimes you get to talk to smart people in bookshops about things that really matter: creativity, solidarity, being human, connecting, whakapapa! Heartening 🖤💛💚 A+++ strongly recommend

Book cover fashion always works like this. But I’m guessing these are very very different books… #ThingsAuthorsHate

So fucking angry.

This is The Bone People edition that I read & loved & re-read as a teenager. There are few books that have been as influential to my early thoughts about writing. So it's no small thing to be a finalist for this award. Just a freaking absolute honour. Tēnā koe e te whaea, Keri. Ngā mihi ki te whānau

Have always loved the story social media tells, not from what people are posting, but the juxtaposition of posts and the story that exists in that thin line between #fourthofJuly

Stunning essay from @michelleduff.bsky.social about where the women in her short story collection came from. I knew yet somehow I was still surprised/delighted! thespinoff.co.nz/books/22-04-... @modernletters.bsky.social

I visited Te Whare Harikoa at Canterbury Museum yesterday and just bawled. It is the most astonishing, warm, ataahua whare. We had to sit with it for a while and we’ll be back. I think in that moment of aroha, tumanako, whakapono I felt all that is being done to us by this govt even more acutely
