Yep. Digital fingerprinting is real.

I will say this though. I think if it was easy to ban the UK would have tried it already but it appears they realize the technical challenges trying to enforce something like that. So there is hope Michigan will understand the uphill battle trying to impose something like that.

Agreed.

Interesting. Then Michigan would be a hacker’s playground if commercial vpns were banned. A person would be insane to jump on any public wifi unless they had their own vpn server at home. Lawmakers are often stupid in how they intend to apply potential laws and don’t understand the ramifications.

I still don’t see how they could enforce that. They might as well ban remote workers too because no company in their right mind would allow access to their network without a vpn of some sort.Would they just ban commercial vpns like Nord but not enterprise vpns?

of moving parts in a set up like that. Not impossible but more challenging.

For statewide age verification no it wouldn’t if commercial vpns were banned in a state. Probably the only way around that would be if you know someone in a state that doesn’t have age verification who runs their own vpn server you could vpn to their network and get around it that way but a lot..

That’s when people have to upgrade their hardware and change with the times (good or bad). I think it is wild if a person doesn’t have at least one device that can run as a vpn server in their home given the times we are in.

It isn’t very hard to do. Especially if you have a router like ASUS in which many of their models have Wireguard and Openvpn installed on it to run your own server. Takes maybe 5-10 minutes to set up.

Tried it with Proton and got blocked. Tried it with Mullvad and got through.

And unlocking geo restricted content.

Glad to hear that! Having that setup can be very useful.

Express VPN is owned by Kape Technologies. Just research them. Not good.

Did you block udp for port 443 remote or local?
October 27, 2025 at 2:07 AM
BBC Iplayer is good at blocking vpns but it is definitely possible to access it using a vpn. However; I had to change my router’s dns settings to use Quad9 dns servers (9.9.9.9 & 149.112.112.112) instead of the vpn’s dns server. Then i could access it using Proton, Nord, IP Vanish and Surfshark.

If torrenting i would go Proton VPN because they have servers that specialize in protecting you for just that. Mullvad is great but for this specific thing Proton is probably the better choice:

When does the vote take place on this proposed amendment?
October 23, 2025 at 9:15 AM
Proton better for streaming. Mullvad is better on anonymity. Both are solid choices.

You getting blocked using a U.S. vpn server?
October 22, 2025 at 3:38 AM
I remember his comment involved bog tech and and smaller businesses but didn’t read in depth. It would make sense that Yen would be more liberal leaning given the structure of how Proton VPN is set up and ran.
October 21, 2025 at 5:57 PM
Understandable.
October 21, 2025 at 5:38 PM
Agreed. His comment was unfortunate however i take comfort in knowing regardless of his position on Trump Proton still has to adhere to Swiss law regarding user data privacy in which Switzerland has some of the most stringent laws regarding that.

Haha. Raw dogging is a bit extreme. 😅

Exactly!
