This account exists purely to further indulge my fascination/obsession with American politics, and yes I did bake a special election cake that took 4 hrs to make and am now using it as my profile pic, call me crazy ,from a little corner of England.

Elon says empathy is a weakness and is destroying civilization but demands he be treated with empathy.
So which is it bro?
"Musk's claim ("the left is supposed to be the party of empathy") perfectly distills the asymmetry in our politics. The left is “supposed to be” empathetic, so that’s the standard it must live up to. The right isn't, so when its leader incites a riot, that’s fine since it meets our expectations."
Woe is M-Elon

“…never in the history of the world has a Nation lost its democracy by a successful struggle to defend its democracy. We must not be defeated by the fear of the very danger which we are preparing to resist…The only thing we have to fear is fear itself."

@jvl.bsky.social with the perfect quote:

"That’s the dual hermeneutic the populists use for evaluating the world. If you’re an expert who got one thing wrong, it damns you. If you’re a total lunatic crank who gets one thing right, it makes makes you bulletproof."
Why is it that elites are held to a standard of perfection at all times, and populists are held to no standard at all?

Why do so many feel like they've fallen behind?

It's not because of immigrants, trans people, the “deep state,” or any other bogeyman trotted out by the GOP.

It's because big corporations and billionaires have rigged markets and siphoned off most of the economy's gains
