#OTD 1545 b. Henry Stuart, Lord Darnley, to Margaret Douglas, Countess of Lennox bit.ly/1jfsR1x who schemed for him to be selected as 2nd husband of Mary, Queen of Scots. She achieved this in 1565 but it ended in tears. Darnley was assassinated in 1567.

#OTD 1556 b. Anne Cecil, d. of Sir William Cecil. Anne had an unhappy life. Her husband, the Earl of Oxford, treated her very shabbily and she spent a good deal of time at her parents’ home. She is buried in @westminsterabbey.bsky.social with her mother. bit.ly/1Klw9a0

#OTD 1546, Henry Howard, Earl of Surrey, sent to the Tower of London. Eldest son of the Duke of Norfolk, Surrey had once been in high favour with Henry VIII. He had campaigned in France initially with great success, but when things went wrong, he tried to avoid taking responsibility. bit.ly/1HUQoix

#OTD 1530 d. Thomas Wolsey, Cardinal and Archbishop of York, died. After a long career devoted to the service of his king (& somewhat to his own profit) he had been abandoned by his master. He was a truly remarkable man deserving of a better end, although his pride had offended many. bit.ly/18vZYYI
