Survivors of high-control religion are often accused of being "brainwashed" when they question the group. This is a common tactic to instill self-doubt in the survivor and attempt to get them to remain in the group.

It needs to be said: Groomers are overwhelmingly white men in their 30s, often married, more religious than average, with no criminal record, and working in roles that give them access to children. Transgender people are being used as a scapegoat to distract from this reality.
