The Cats - Who is the top cat on this album?

From the liner notes: In the early 1900s, the girls of the New Orleans' brothels were called cats (as in the cat house). The name shifted to describe the jazz musicians who played downstairs and became part of the jazz vernacular. #jazzsky

Jazz piano player Julia Hipp suffered from stage fright, left the music industry after recording 2 LPs for Bluenote, and worked for a clothing company for 35 years. In 2000, Bluenote finally tracked her down and gave her a royalty check for $40,000. #jazzsky

Soul Jazz by Something Else! was recorded at the Smoke Jazz Club in New York earlier this year. All the Smoke Sessions are well worth checking out but this lineup romps it in! #jazzsky
