If the American Hospital Association is supporting the idea of supporting working nurses instead of bringing in travelers or temps, we are seeing a sea change in the understanding of nurses' value. May it last--because nurses are the heart of healthcare.

This week "The Healing Newsletter" is about real healing. For 8 years I've lived with post-surgical pain following my lumpectomy for breast cancer. Acupuncture and physical therapy have made that pain melt away. Read about it here--maybe you can be pain-free, too! open.substack.com/pub/theresab...
I don't have to live with post-surgical pain and maybe you don't either.

I can't believe it's come to this--that we will let Native Americans, and lots of other Americans, starve to fund tax cuts for people who already have more money than they know what to do with. Going hungry in the richest country in the world. SMH.
If SNAP (aka food stamps) runs out of funding on Nov 1 due to the government shutdown, over 1 million Native Americans could lose their benefits. That is 24% of Native American households.
Over one million American Indian, Alaska Natives at risk if SNAP funding lapses - ICT
SNAP is often more accessible than commodities for Native people, especially those in urban areas

This breaks my heart. I've never worked in an ER, but being a BMT nurse was pretty tough. #Nurses are worth their weight in gold and hospital administrators need to care for struggling nurses if they want those nurses to care well for patients.

#Nurse here. If you don't have your health you have nothing. The U.S. can definitely afford to give all our citizens health care. We should see it as a badge of honor to take care of our own people.

We've known for years that night shift is bad for people's health. There are ways to make night shifts safer for workers--allow naps, stagger shifts--which would cost money. But worth it: #Nurses & all night shift workers shouldn't have jobs that make them sick.

Ugh. What's with Republicans wanting to make health insurance too expensive for millions of Americans? Oh right, lack of empathy. I'd be so proud to live in a country that actually cared for all of its citizens, regardless of their politics.

Great explanation! It's been said over and over again, but is worth repeating: The US is the only industrialized country that doesn't provide some form of universal health care to its citizens. It's embarrassing that we're so stingy and incompetent we can't care for our own people.
like yeah sure the ACA was far from perfect (although “expansion of the welfare state was hard fought but woefully incomplete” is basically the history of american social policy), but it is difficult to overstate how important the Medicaid expansion has been to expanding health care access
