I’ve been the one thinking to myself that I should stay longer for their sake rather than them asking or demanding it of me. So then the only problem becomes where the fuck does a living wage come from anymore these days?

She also helped me remember that staying with my parents longer has been more my idea. Even after moving back in during the pandemic, we’ve talked consistently about me getting stable enough to move into my own place, and they’ve said their concerns are more that I’ll be set when their time comes

and to consistently see a lot of the authoritarian violence on display, while it’s important to acknowledge and not ignore, has more than likely also been triggering my PTSD slowly and making me consistently anxious on that issue. Wednesday’s argument just brought it all to the surface.

The other thing she got me to recognize was that by being so immersed in the news, I was also exposing myself to a lot of the triggers for my PTSD. I don’t think I’ve brought it up here, but I was diagnosed with PTSD after working at a terrible halfway house job that ended with me getting assaulted.

Granted, both times ended in arguments, but the fear that it’s going to keep coming back up was more just my anxiety of having to face another argument rather than there being a real possibility of any further arguments on the issue. Even since Wednesday, it hasn’t come back up once.
