The top looks pretty. Not sure about the bottom crust, but the rest is okay, and I’m sure the apple filling is cooked.

This morning, I’m living in Silent Hill.
From inside a fenced garden yellow brick patio, there’s a view of a few tangled rose bushes and some overgrown sage plants next to a black metal fence. Outside the fence is a black asphalt crossroad in a tree-lined residential neighborhood. Heavy fog blankets the area, reducing visibility so that only two or three houses are discernible and the rest disappear.

Le frigo est arrivé!
A new two-door steel-front refrigerator with a bottom freezer stands in the kitchen on top of tan tiles. The doors are closed. A pale green wall is behind the fridge, and next to it is a white electric radiator affixed to the wall. The refrigerator and freezer doors are now open to the right, displaying empty shelves, awaiting all our food once the fridge is plugged in and the interior is at the correct temperature.

I forgot to post the picture of my momma’s birthday flowers. We don’t have a flower vase, so for now they’re in a measuring pitcher.

Mona doesn’t mind me being sick because it means more cuddle time in the bed. Eventually, I’ll need to take her for a walk around the neighborhood. But for now, this is all she wants or needs. She’s keeping me safe and staying close.

However, this afternoon while Mona is at the groomers, I’m taking a little time to myself at the local coffee shop for a latte and a slice of red velvet cake.

Our handyman brought a second apple tree, red this time, and together we planted the apples and the plum tree and moved the pomegranate trees to a better location. Next year, the garden is truly going to be lovely!

We also reassembled two tables my father built and which I flat packed to France.

In front of the table in the floor lie four curved interlocking pieces of multicolored foam, in which are set eight large communication buttons for a pet in a variety of colors. On top of the wooden table is an internet router and a portable landline phone.

Mona wanted to do her nightly rounds before bed. The sky was so clear, and the moon and stars were bright. But Toad Friend was nowhere to be seen. Has he moved on? Is he hiding under the rosemary bush? Was he eaten by a cat? Has he gone in search of a place to hide for winter? Mona ponders.
Bright moonrise over dark trees with bright stars sprinkling the clear sky overhead. So many stars. Mona, a black Scottish terrier, at the end of a red leash, is on patrol, gazing out from the brick patio over the lawn, through the black metal fence, and across the late night street toward the parked gray car on the opposite side next to the curb. No cats are visible. Her Toad is absent too. Mona is a bit concerned for him and insisted on two circuits of the garden, just to be sure he wasn’t there.

Our handyman found a plum tree and a native golden apple tree for our garden while he was at the bricolage (hardware store) and brought them by our house this morning. 😊 I’m so excited! We want this garden to be a food forest, and now we are one step closer to that goal.

- The museum was great! We only spent about 35 minutes, so we will want to go back to see more, but it was definitely worth a visit.

On the way to the train station, we passed a ruined chateaux from the 12 century. You can’t go inside, but it was free to walk around it. -

- Ah well. At least I know and can get this resolved. And since we have to wait for the bus, we DID have time to go see the Roman museum. 😊-

- We then walked the LONG street down to the train station, passing an amazing medieval turret and the Hôtel de Ville (city hall) already celebrating next year’s Tour de France. -
This medical stone turret stands in the center of the city near a large public park. Metal gates surround the Hôtel de Villr. A sign on the gate announces next year’s Tour de France which will pass directly through here.

- We then walked past the cathedral with its Greek cross layout, and found our way to Boukie’s Books, an English language bookshop. What a treat!! I came away with three new books and one that’s used, as well as an open invitation to Friday evening meetups of Americans living in the area. 😊 -
Multiple spires of the stone cathedral built in the twelfth century stretch up to the blue sky above. The bookshop has a greenish awning and warm wood paneled entrance and display window. In front of the shop is a red table and chair set, some long benches that stretch throughout this area of the pedestrian old town, and a couple of empty tables near the entrance.

- We decided to walk to a British themed pub nearby (there are a lot of English retirees and immigrants who have settled here) named after Sherlock Holmes’ bestie. -
Watson’s Pub is an English themed pub. With a dark blue exterior with gold painted detailing, gold lettering in the paneling, and large windows with some frosted glass. My mother stands in front of the pub in her blue puffy down coat, open to reveal her green turtleneck and green scarf. A wider street in Perigueux with stone sidewalks, flanked by stone buildings on either side. In the distance is the spire of the cathedral which was built in the 12th century. A narrow cobblestone alleyway in the center of town is pedestrian (and bike) only during certain hours of the day. A blue and white sign attached to the wall of a building on the right of the alleyway shows an adult and a child holding hands with the hours of restriction listed. Another narrow stone street in the pedestrian old town.
