@alexjholt.bsky.social and I were excited for a Pride event today, but showed up to no sign of anyone. The main event was cancelled yesterday due to "weather" (Reform are in charge of our council and were looking to cancel anyway). Ah well. Birding, cafe break, antiques and books instead!

I'm getting occasional waves of nausea realising that as a dual citizen and American abroad, with characteristics that make me vulnerable, I won't be able to travel and see my family again unless something shifts politically. I'm watching my country crumble and it's outside of my locus of control.

Something I think is really important to internalize is that everyone is capable of doing inadvertent harm, and the scope of that potential harm grows in proportion to any vector of power or privilege.

Being a good person isn't innocence. It's vigilance, accountability, and course-correction

In light of the horrific fires in California, a few things:
1) Please remember that grief cannot be fixed. Monetary aid and supplies are critical for survival but for grief we need presence, community, and to be heard in moments of despair.
2) Feelings are things to go i/through/i. See comments

If you're autistic/adhd spectrumy, remember that unmasking isn't just a social exercise of energy management and authenticity, but also something you can do at home to recharge. Where an NT person finds mindfulness useful, you may need to indulge your hyperfocus on a special interest for a bit.
