Marine One was airborne on Saturday near the White House when a U.S. Secret Service patrol officer spotted Winkler walking on a sidewalk, shirtless and loudly talking to himself, the officer wrote in an affidavit. The officer said he shone a flashlight at Winkler, who apparently retaliated by flashing a red laser beam at the officer's face. As Marine One flew over their heads, Winkler looked up and shined the laser pointer at the helicopter, according to the officer. After the officer handcuffed him, Winkler repeatedly talked about apologizing to Trump, the affidavit says. The court filing doesn't say if anybody aboard the helicopter noticed the laser. But the officer said Winkler's conduct could have temporarily blinded or disoriented a pilot, placing Marine One at risk of an airborne collision with other helicopters in the area. "This behavior endangers Marine One and everyone on board," U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro said in a statement. A foreign policy organized around punishing and killing our supposedly sworn enemies, diplomacy be damned, conveys the terrible message that we can only kill and maim our way to achieving the world we want to live in. I fear that this is most evident in America's ironclad support for Israel. The genocide in Gaza has claimed tens of thousands of innocent lives. Meanwhile, Israel has carried out brazen assassinations and attempted assassinations in Iran, Qatar, Lebanon and Yemen. Backed up by Mr. Trump and, previously, by Mr. Biden, our government's virtually unyielding support for Israel tells a scary story about the country we live in. It suggests that, merely because we designate them as such, American enemies can be marked for death. Whether such rivals pose a legitimate threat, the "fire and fury" of our military and our allies have clearly become the default answer for how we deal with a world whose interests don't align with our own. Pulling a gun or launching a missile has become part of our national character, a sad reduction of morality to the time it takes for fingers to pull triggers.

SHOOTING DETAILS The shooting unfolded just after 1 p.m. Wednesday on River Bend Drive, a dead-end street off Colorado Avenue. According to Acting Lorain Police Chief Michael Failing, officers Phillip Wagner and Peter Gale were having lunch in their patrol vehicles when the suspect, positioned nearby with "an arsenal of weapons," opened fire. The two officers most seriously injured - Wagner and Brent Payne - were Life Flighted to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland. The third officer, Gale, was wounded in the hand and treated at Mercy Health - Lorain Hospital. "This was a deliberate and planned ambush," said Welsh during a briefing after the shooting. "The suspect used a high-powered rifle against our officers." Investigators say Parker's vehicle was found near the dead end of River Bend Drive with several high-powered rifles, handguns, and numerous loaded magazines both inside and nearby. As officers worked to secure the scene, they noticed suspicious bags that prompted concerns about potential explosive devices. The Lorain County Bomb Squad was called to the scene, where technicians discovered a large amount of improvised explosive materials inside the vehicle. The items were safely removed and later destroyed in a controlled detonation at a separate location.
