They did this during the community workshops, they had a live survey during the event. And uhm well you're never going to believe this.

Margot Smith just spoke 'on behalf of the voters of the city' who oppose new housing. And uhm lol

At a meeting about whether we're going to build housing for young families like us. An elderly NIMBY got mad at @alanakinrich.medsky.social for 'being distracting' by breastfeeding our baby in the reserved seats in the front. In case you're wondering who they think should be part of this process.

Everyone runs around talking about preserving the historic nature of our neighborhoods. We should bring back the historically accurate architecture of places like San Francisco and Berkeley. Which is basically, build a box and slap some cheap plaster doodads on the front.

Massing is a technical term for BIG BUILDINGS ARE SCARY. So we 'articulate the facades' to 'break up the massing' so that it looks like multiple buildings. Which uhh doesn't work. You get stuff that looks like this:

And what do you know, the local 'neighborhood preservationist' lives in a $4 million home that is assessed at less than $735K and pays about half as much property taxes as I do.

No wonder this person doesn't care about affordability.

The name 'Elmwood Zoning' makes it sound like it's something official but it's clearly just some NIMBY posting from home.

Fun thing though. Whoever started this group used their home address when setting up their Mailchimp account... which is now in their email footer.

Whelp the closer we get to Berkeley city council's first meeting on commercial corridor upzoning, the more upset the local NIMBYs are getting.

It's crazy that we have this incredible concert venue in the midst of Berkeley but we severely limit the number of shows to appease a handful of NIMBYs who apparently weren't aware that there was a university here when they bought their homes. Thousands of people vs dozens.

I'm starting to think that some of the people at this Berkeley corridor upzoning meeting didn't come with open minds.

Taking the baby to see his new clubhouse for the first time. It's great to see Berkeley investing in his generation.

Thank you @markhumbert.bsky.social and @loridroste.bsky.social for making this new park space happen!!
