Someone needs to sit Doug Ford down at 7 am and force him to binge all 14 hours of The Pitt - maybe then he'll get a sense of what it's like to be a hospital worker. Maybe it would finally bring him some empathy, and everyone else some healthcare funding.

Reason #2 why the USA's 51st state aspirations for Canada fall short of an offer is that their respect for the machinery of government is non-existent. They don’t care about agreements, or laws, and act with impunity and malice. Why would any stable country want to allow any American input?

Reason #1 why the USA's 51st state aspirations for Canada fall short of an offer is that their healthcare sucks. Canada's is not the best, but universal care is FAR superior and cheaper for way more of the population. The Americans are asking us to downgrade and are surprised we aren't interested.

If the USA can’t stick to the terms of the USMCA, then we can’t rely on their corporations following our regulations. For the best interests of Canadians, any American-owned corporation operating in Canada should be unionized. That would offer protection for our workers. It's not a tax or a tariff.

Love it!
In the small city of #Nanaimo Canada alone, grocery stores are forced to dump 500 kg of American produce PER DAY.

Why? Because Canadians aren’t buying ANYTHING American any more.

And probably for a very long time.

Well played, Trump.

Canadian friends - what apps are we using to scan barcodes and check country of origin status on products? What do you recommend?

Quick note that Trump has tipped his hand if only imposing an import tariff of 10% on energy. Canada should pounce on this by topping up an additional 15% export tax. #canpoli

Ontario, don't be stupid. Get out and vote today! Last time Ford got a majority based on votes from only 18% of the electorate. If you give a damn about your healthcare, you don't want to miss this one. You don't need to be registered or nothin', just show up with your ID. Easy peasy

This is what happened in the USA so don’t fall for this or get apathetic, these polls are designed to lull people into a false sense of security.

We have learned that those who want to dismantle our hard earned, and hard built institutions deserve no quarter!

Another poll projects Liberals win a majority with Mark Carney as party leader
Léger and Mainstreet polls now project that the Liberals would win a majority in the next election with Mark Carney as Liberal leader.

What's happening in the US is a stark lesson for Canadians. When you vote for a party promoting deregulation, this is what you get: banking, environmental, food and drug regulators... all on the chopping block. How are we supposed to do business now? There's no legal repercussions for bad actors.

Steel and aluminum tariffs? Counter with tariffs on US booze, then add other non-vital consumer products until we have reached the same value - also any counter tariffs stay in place for twice as long as they are imposed for. We need to stabilize our economy - so put a lasting price on these moves.

Is it considered trade retaliation if Canada enacts a law that forces non-Canadian entities that want to operate in Canada to be unionized? Amazon, Starbucks, FedEx, Walmart… feels like that’s possibly an easy way to help bring some stability to our economy in these troubling times?

The timing is terrible for an election in Canada but it’s an opportunity for all parties to put together and commit to plans to help us through the US aggression. This is not the time for soft or subtle action on our part. Aggressive Canada-focused policy that puts our exports to use internally pls!

Tariff threats are not going away now - we have an unreliable partner. So let’s help our farmers plan accordingly. If we can’t export as much, what can we encourage our farmers to grow, through guaranteed pricing, that can be processed and used to feed Canadians? How should we diversify?
February 10, 2025 at 11:36 AM
Looks like it’s time for some big public works projects Canada. Let’s subsidize the steel and aluminum industry with some railway & infrastructure improvements. Federal funds to build up the east/west transport to our ports! Let’s start thinking about how we can turn these tariffs to our advantage.

If the government agencies that enforced regulations south of us are no longer functioning as they were, how can we reliably bring food, or any other regulated items across the border? How can we know it meets Canadian standards? Wasn't that sort of the point of a trade deal - to bake in standards?
February 8, 2025 at 4:44 PM
Every Canadian governmental institution needs to be shoring up their security protocols right now. Let's make the data grab and public service pruning that happened south of us impossible here. We don't need a sitting government to write internal agency security policy - tighten it all up!
