I think it goes back to the glee kids took in dressing up in costumes and such. He seems like the kind of dude who'd still be in touch with that side of himself.

Not American, but here in Sweden I see people hang out in the school's yard in the evening/at night relatively often.

As someone who's beaten the remake a few too many times, it's exciting to finally experience this. Familiar in spots, but also foreign due to the differing design principles.
