UE5 tech art tip 1.

You need a cool light gradient for that "off into the distance" effect.

Welcome to "Decal Gradients"!

Subtract Actor Pos from World Pos to anchor the effect to your Decal Actor.

Place the Decal, treat it like a volume. Voila - cheap lighting great with Lumen!

Cheap decal gradient for lighting large spaces. Use Decal Actors as a volume to light up whole static or dynamic actors that are enabled to receive decals. This a node graph showing the logic behind the decal gradient material. Note that Decal Actors require a material to be set to Decal material domain and either Translucent or Alpha Composite blend mode. Turn off "Tangent Space Normals" in the global settings of your material to reduce shader instructions. Too dark, needs a cool gradient! This pipe area is looking moody but it's pitch black below, not very exciting. This decal gradient effect could be tweaked for ages because it's highly versatile, and if you extend the material's usage, you could even convert the Component Mask into a Parameter to work on all 3 axes. A claustrophobic L-shaped pipe corridor lit underneath in an orange glow with two vents on the walls emanating yellow fog light.
