Anyone else get to that certain point late at night where they need to get up early in the morning so lie there thinking 'sod it' & attempt to stay awake as it's too much effort to go to sleep then wake up again?
...Because I'm getting to that point.
I can easily read for 5 hours to occupy myself.😅😭
a cartoon of a person laying on a bed with the name porucz on the bottom right
Alt: a cartoon of a person lying on a bed with the name porucz on the bottom right. The image is blue - mixed shades of blue - likely hinting at not only the late time of night with the shadows being cast but also the person's mood. The person has eyes wide open. So wide it's clearly obvious they will not sleep that dark night. Their basic drawn hands lie clasped across their stomach as they look to the ceiling considering the infinite possibilities of life and why they will likely never fall asleep that evening. On the floor, next to the bed lies their plugged in phone. The phone is off, unlike the person who lies awake staring pitifully at the ceiling. They have no bedside table to rest their phone on, nor any drink for their parched throat at night - maybe this is also why they can't sleep, they can't help but think of their lack of table? Maybe they can't help but have thoughts of the plant to the left of the bed which stands there quietly in its pot - company for the sleepless person only in its leafy presence. The curtains, to the right of the bed are wide open and tied back neatly. The person on the bed does not appear disturbed by this, there is nothing to be seen out of the window other than a dark sky reflected by the dark colour of the room. There is the sense of nothingness as the person lies on their bed, staring at the ceiling - if a ceiling is even there. We do not know. We do not even know if this person is male or female. We do not even know if this person is human from the basic outline of a figure that it is. All we know is that they are contemplating the existence of the universe and time itself and their place within it. The only break they have from the darkness of their room is the even-more darkness of their eyelids as they blink every so often before staring once again above. The night is young. Or maybe it is old. We do not know. But in this moment time seems infinite.

I've been thinking about this poem by Langston Hughes recently and although it was published in 1931, it remains relevant as ever.
