Seeing a lot of confusion in the comments about why he’s only charged with 2nd degree murder. To clarify, in MN, prosecutors can charge up to 2nd degree right away, then have to ask for grand jury approval to charge 1st degree. That is a separate step that will definitely happen.

The town is apparently named after the nearby actual mountain, and I so need some elaborate small town lore that this mountain was created by a giant tossing aside the bones of his victims. And then the town rose up and defeated the giant at some pt, but they hold their rib-eating fest to remember.
